Johnson, Russell (11 JUL 1911 – 8 JAN 1975)
Russell Johnson, who was born and raised here (Owen, Clark Co., Wis.), and spent
38 of his 63 years of life here, died suddenly, Wednesday, January 8, 1975 of a
heart attack at his home in Colgate. He and his sife, the former Eunice Wohld,
moved to Colgate from Owen in 1950.
Funeral services were conducted from the Kraut-Maurina Funeral Home, Owen,
Saturday afternoon, January 11, 1975. Fr. Fraser of St. Katherine's Episcopal
Church, Owen, officiated, with burial being made at Riverside Cemetery (rural
Withee).
Serving as pallbearers were Rick Phillips, Dewey Phillips, Jack Johnson, Jeff
Johnson, Regis Phillips, and Steve Langleish.
The deceased was born July 11, 1911 in Owen, where he attended school. Later he
was employed at Western Condensing Company and Ma..? Dairy. On October 6, 1931
he was united in marriage to the former Eunice Wohld in a ceremony performed at
Stanley. For several years they operated a grocery store in the Fourth Ward of
Owen. In 1950 they moved to Colgate, where Mr. Johnson was employed as a spray
painter at Briggs & Stratton Company. He was in a serious car accident in the
early 60's, and after a long period of hospitalization started his own business
as a saw (?? Unreadable).
His parents, the former Louis (?) and Gertrude Johnson, both preceded him in
death, as did a daughter. His passing is mourned by his wife Eunice, Colgate,
and daughters, Mrs. Vernon Horwitz, Kaukauna, and Mrs. Russell (Beverly)
Phillips, Owen, a son, Jack Johnson of East (?), a brother, Robert Carver of
Stanley, 19 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
