Berthold, Nettie E. (11 SEP 1927 – 11 DEC 2019)
Nettie E. Berthold, 92, Greenwood, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019, at
Wells Nature View in Marshfield. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on
Saturday, Dec. 21, in the Greenwood High School cafetorium in Greenwood, with
Mr. Robert Eberhardt and Mr. Bruce Shaw officiating. Visitation will be held at
the high school on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of service. Interment will
follow in the Greenwood City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Andrews, Noah
Berthold, Andrew Beyer, Tom Dix, Duane Wepfer, and John Benjamin Zimmer.
Nettie Ethel Williams was born on Sept. 11, 1927, in Thorp, to Rollin H. and
Bessie M. (nee Thompson) Williams. She was raised on the family farm in the town
of Reseburg, attended Goff School, later graduated from LaSalle Correspondence
School, and then completed the librarian A50 course. Nettie was united in
marriage to Donald C. Berthold on Nov. 1, 1950, in Adams. She worked in
Evanston, Ill., as a nanny and in the kitchen at a hospital. After her marriage,
she worked at the Greenwood Bakery and Greenwood Public Library for many years.
Nettie had many interests, but especially loved spending time with her family
and friends, painting pictures, and baking desserts and bread.
She will be dearly missed by her husband, Donald, of Marshfield; her daughters:
Gloria (Bob) Beyer of Shawano, and Jean Zimmer of Greenwood; her son: James
Berthold of Wausau; nine grandchildren: Lisa (Josh) Hughes and Andrew Beyer
(fiancé Megan Jones), both of Shawano, Jill Zimmer of Pittsville, John Benjamin
Zimmer (fiancé Samantha Engebretson) of Greenwood, and Jessica (Sirena)
KurthRindt, Jennifer (Josh) Kurth-Machi, Jeffrey Kurth, Mikayla Berthold and
Noah Berthold, all of Wausau; three great-grandchildren: Greyson Beyer, Lila
Hughes and Theodore Hughes; one sister: Hester Williams of Marshfield; and
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Nettie was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings: Alvin Williams,
Eva Mae Williams, Dewey Williams, Emma Kippenhan, Roy Williams, Walter Williams,
Della Williams, Mildred Briski, and Grace Bartlett.
