Buchanan, Joan (24 AUG 1935 – 14 DEC 2019)

Joan Buchanan, 84, originally of Clark County, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019, in Ohio. Joan Marilyn Lavey was born on Aug. 24, 1935, in the town of York, Clark County, the daughter of Glenn and Elizabeth (nee Johnson) Lavey. She grew up on her parents’ farm on Romadka Avenue, four miles north of Granton. She received her elementary education at Romadka Grade School and graduated from Loyal High School in 1953. After high school, Joan briefly attended the Wood County College in Wisconsin Rapids. She then worked for Nekoosa-Edwards (now Domtar) Paper Company where she met her future husband, Jack Buchanan, who worked there as a chemical engineer. They were married on June 20, 1959, at the York Center Methodist Church. They lived in Port Edwards, New Brighton, Minn., and Kaukauna. When Jack passed away, Joan moved back to central Wisconsin. She lived in that area for several years and then moved to Ohio where two of her sons reside.

Those surviving include three sons: Craig (Leslie) Buchanan, Joel Buchanan and Dennis (Bonni) Buchanan; two sisters-in-law: Jean Lavey, Nekoosa, and Beverly Lavey, Granton; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, on Nov. 5, 1987; and two brothers: Norbert and David Lavey.

Her cremains will be buried at a later date next to her husband at the Riverview Cemetery in Nekoosa.
