Nicks, Grace B. (29 AUG 1887 – 15 APR 1975)
Mrs. Grace B. Nicks, 87, Curtiss (Clark Co., Wis.), died at 5 a.m. Tuesday,
April 15, 1975 at the Colonial House of Colby. She had been a resident there
since May 1971.
Services were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at St. Paul's American Lutheran Church,
Curtiss. Officiating was the Rev. Roger Tellock, pastor. Burial followed in
Withee Riverside Cemetery.
The former Grace Lehmann was born August 29, 1887 in Johnson County, Iowa. Her
marriage to Walter Nicks took place September 29, 1904 at Kansas City, Missouri.
He died March 24, 1919.
After their marriage the couple farmed in Luverne, Minnesota until 1914, when
they moved to San Bernardino, California and operated an orange grove until
1916, when they moved to a farm in the Town of Hoard, Clark County.
In 1951 she came to the city of Owen (Clark Co.), where she and her brother, the
late Charles Lehmann, operated a service station and general store. The family
came to the Village of Curtiss in 1965.
Survivors include a son, Walter Nicks, Dorchester; three daughters, Mrs.
Clarence (Mildred) Geary, Curtiss, Mrs. Clarence (Fay) Stephens, Pharr, Texas,
and Mrs. Charles (Wava) Telin, Menasha; two sisters, Mrs. Vila Mae Morrison and
Mrs. Florence Bernet, both of West Liberty, Iowa; two brothers, Pierre and Percy
Lehmann, both of West Liberty, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren,
and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister and three brothers.
