Nielsen, Glyde B. (1887 – 26 MAY 1975)
Mrs. Glyde B. Nielsen, widow of Dr. Christian S. Nielsen, formerly of Withee
(Clark Co., Wis., died in Wayzata, Minnesota on May 26, 1975. She was 88 years
old. Dr. Nielsen died in 1923. She is survived by her son, Andre S. Nielsen of
Wayzata, Minnesota, a brother, Delos Luhrsen of Marshfield, and brother, august
H. Luhrsen of Waukesha. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Dr. D. Greer
Nielsen of Seattle, Washington, and Mrs. Kristen Bittle of Oconomowoc, and five
great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Nielsen was born in Reedsburg, Wisconsin in 1887 and was a teacher in the
Withee High School when she met and married Dr. Nielsen. She was very active in
community affairs, and she, among other Withee women, established the Withee
Public Library and was its first librarian. She was also instrumental, with
others, in arranging for the monument in the Withee Park commemorating World War
I veterans. Mrs. Nielsen worked in the Eau Claire Public Library and was a
librarian in the Minneapolis Public Library for many years until her retirement.
Mrs. Nielsen will be buried in the Danish Cemetery in Withee next to her
husband. Graveside services will be held at a later date to be announced.
