Sternitzky, Mr./Mrs. Rudolph (Golden – 16 September 1975)
The 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Sternitzky, Rt. 1 Granton,
was observed August 24 in the Zion Lutheran Church parlor at Granton. A special
prayer was said for them and their family by the Rev. Everett Schleef.
A 12:30 p.m. dinner was served at Bali Hai supper Club for family members,
attendants and their spouses, with 32 people present.
The afternoon was spend socially at an open house beginning at 2 p.m. in the
church parlors. Duane Sternitzky gave a witty account of his memories of the
honored couple, and then read the original publication of 50 years ago.
Douglas Sternitzky read an article reminiscing about the family’s home life over
the years. A song entitled, “Married Blessings,” written by Mildred Faber, was
sung by family members. A buffet lunch was served at 3:30 p.m.
Mrs. Sternitzky wore a corsage of tiny American beauty roses. Mr. Sternitzky
wore a gold-tinted white carnation.
They were married September 16, 1925, at Zion Lutheran Church, Granton, by Rev.
Theo D. Martens.
Mr. Sternitzky was born January 21, 1897, in the Town of Lynn to Mr. and Mrs.
Albert Sternitzky. He attended Sunbeam School at Lynn, and also the parochial
school at the Mapleworks Church, where he was confirmed. In his younger years he
worked on road building projects and has farmed at the present place for the
past 56 years. Mr. Sternitzky, who served in the Army during World War I, has
been a member of the American Legion, presently Haugen-Richmond Post. No. 73 at
Neillsville and holds a 50-year membership certificate. He is a member of Zion
Lutheran Church at Granton. His hobbies are hunting and playing cards. He is in
fair health.
Mrs. Sternitzky, the former Laura Reisner, was born March 24, 1905, at Adell, in
Sheboygan County to Charles and Emma (Klietz) Reisner. She was educated at a
parochial school at Adell, then moved to Clark County in 1914 and attended the
Popular Grove School east of Lynn until the eighth grade when she entered the
parochial school at Zion Lutheran (Mapleworks) where she was confirmed. Later
she helped organize a youth group which is now the Walther League. She is a
member of Zion Lutheran Church. Her hobbies are flowers, and gardening. She has
lived at the present place since her marriage, helps around the farm, and enjoys
baking.
Mr. Sternitzky is now semi-retired and farms in partnership with a son, Warren.
Their children are Warren, Granton, Lorraine Nowak, Waukesha; LaVonne Schmidt,
Pittsville; and Leon, Wisconsin Rapids. One son, Forest, was killed while deer
hunting November 26, 1945, also, two sons-in-law are deceased, Tony Nowak in
1965, and Pat Schmidt in 1973, and a grandson, Wayne Schmidt, who died in 1967
at age 3.
The Sternitzkys have eight grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.
Wedding attendants present for the observance wee Mrs. Wal (Charlotte Reiff)
Schlachtenhaufen from Tomahawk, Mrs. Raymond (Leona Gotter) Sternitzky, Granton,
and Oscar Reisner, Owen. The other attendant Emroy Albrecht, died in 1971.
A cross shaped wedding cake was made by a grand-niece, Mrs. Verlyn Rollins.
