Legion to Honor Veteran Boyd Plummer (2020)

A former member of the National Guard in Neillsville will be honored for his military service by Legion Post 73.
Boyd Plummer will be honored by the Legion for his service in the 32nd Red Arrow National Guard in Neillsville.
Plummer had basic training in Fort Leonard in Missouri and advance training at Fort Dix in New Jersey in weapons, infantry and tactics.
He was activated to Fort Lewis in Washington with Company E 128th Infantry during the Berlin Crisis. He was assigned command jeep driver and battle group radio technician with a co-driver operator. The company engaged in mountain, desert and jungle training.
“At times, we slept under the jeep to keep warm, with headphones on at all times,” Plummer said.
Plummer was transferred to K Company, where he took aggressive training in escape and evasion, and special weapons and tactics.
Plummer then moved to Lake Geneva and joined the Delavan Red Arrow National Guard. He worked at American Motors Kenosha, and later on in construction.
He moved to Marshfield in 1966. He was employed at Weyerhauser Company.
In 1967, Plummer was discharged from the military.
In 1972, Plummer received his GED. He had two years of college in criminal justice and became a police officer in Marshfield.
Plummer and his wife, Sandra, bought their own business in 1987. They sold the business in 1998 and retired.
Plummer enjoys flying, woodworking, antiques and motorcycling. Previously, he was the president and co-founder of a car and flying club.
“I hold the military in very high regard and was honored to have served,” Plummer said.
He also saluted all veterans for their service.
Plummer was born in Menomonie. He attended Cannonville Grade School and went to Neillsville High School for three years.
Plummer will be honored at an event at American Legion Post 73, 7 Boon Boulevard, Neillsville. It is this Monday, Feb. 3. There will be a social hour at 4:30 p.m. and a potluck at 5:30 p.m.
