Ven Rooy, Lyle J. (3 SEP 1953 – 5 JAN 2020)

Lyle Joseph Ven Rooy, 66, passed away in the comfort of his home in Del Norte, Colo., on January 5, 2020.

Lyle was born on September 3, 1953, in Marshfield to Harold and Evelyn Ven Rooy. He graduated from Colby High School in 1971 and enlisted in the United States Army immediately after graduation. After his honorable discharge in 1974, he traveled to Colorado to meet up with his army buddies and fell in love with the mountains... he was hooked! Lyle remained in Colorado working as a heavy equipment operator until a serious car accident left him unable to continue. Before his accident, he was known for cruising the San Luis Valley on his ‘60 Panhead Harley and afterwards, his “sparkly blue ‘56 Chevy.” Lyle made many friends in Colorado with his kindness and soft spoken nature and he loved to discuss and solve the world’s problems with anyone over coffee and breakfast down at the local Del Norte Café.

Lyle is survived by his daughters, Laura Kiah of Sarasota, Fla., and Michelle (Dillon) Baker of South Fork, Colo.; and a grandchild, Ryker Kiah, Sarasota, Fla. He is further survived by his two brothers, Ken (Connie) Ven Rooy, Colby and David (Barb) Ven Rooy, Owen; his two sisters, Karen (Wayne) Neuman, Colby and Diane (Daryl) Kulas, Colby; plus many nieces and nephews.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Evelyn Ven Rooy and a nephew, Shayne Neuman. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.
