In a press release, the Neillsville Kiwanis Club announced its newest Junior Kiwanian is Melissa Pohle, a senior at Neillsville High School.

As Junior Kiwanian, Pohle has participated in Kiwanis meetings. Pohle’s tenure has been during the month of January. She is the daughter of Brett Pohle and Amy and Gary Veltus.

“This standout individual has compiled an impressive list of academic achievements and extracurricular activities in her high school career and has complemented it with extensive volunteering in the community,” the Kiwanis Club’s Brent Shoup wrote in the press release, which was issued Jan. 15.

Pohle is a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society. Also, at the high school, she has served on the student council, participated in show choir and been a member of BLAST (Being a Leader and Standing Tall) and the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathetics), Spanish, fine arts and creative writing clubs. Her volunteering has included time at Change of Seasons, the House of Mercy, the St. Mary’s pancake breakfast, the Clark County Humane Society and the Neillsville Food Pantry. She has also volunteered in the Big Buddy Program, in neighborhood lawn care and as a teacher’s aide at CCD.

“The Neillsville club takes priced in highlighting the accomplishments of students like Melissa Pohle, and wishes her success in her future endeavors,” Shoup wrote.

After graduating, Pohle plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. She has been serving as a youth apprentice at Unity Bank and she will take that experience to UW-Stevens Point to pursue an accounting degree.
