Churkey, Marvin L. (11 JAN 1904 – 17 DEC 1975)
Marvin Leslie Churkey, Route 1, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), died of an apparent
heart attack at 9:40 p.m. Thursday at Victory Memorial Hospital in Stanley. He
was 71 years of age.
The Rev. Douglas R. Groenewold, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church in Withee,
conducted services at 12:45 p.m. Sunday at the Kraut-Maurina Funeral Home in
Owen. Burial followed in the Greenwood (Clark Co.) Cemetery.
Mr. Churkey was born January 11, 1904 at Deep River, Iowa, and in 1907 moved
with his family to a farm in the Town of Eaton (Clark Co.), where he continued
to live until 1925. He attended the Greenwood area schools.
He married the former Edith Stafford on September 18, 1926, at Greenwood, and
they farmed in the Town of Green Grove (Clark Co.) until 1971. Mr. Churkey was a
milk hauler for 20 years and also had a small repair shop on his farm.
Survivors include the widow; two daughters, , Mrs. Gilbert (Mae) Wickersham,
Eveleth, Minnesota, and Mrs. William (Fern) Wirtala, Greenwood, and three
brothers, David, Wausau, Charles (Don) Withee, and William (Burt), Marshfield.
Preceding him in death were three sisters.
The family has suggested that a memorial be made to the Heart Fund.
