Van Zile, Mable (26 MAR 1914 – 27 NOV 1975)
Mable M. Van Zile, 61, 580 Schrader Road, Sherman Township, Sturgis, Michigan,
died at 12:15 a.m. Thursday, November 27, 1975 at her residence, in her sleep.
She was born in Jutland, Denmark on March 26, 1914, a daughter of Michael and
Caroline( Anderson) Candahl, former Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) residents.
Mrs. Van Zile had been a Sturgis resident 42 years, coming from Milwaukee,
Wisconsin.
She was married to Roy A. Van Zile on August 22, 1936 in Sturgis.
Mrs. Van Zile was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and the Nazarene
Women's Missional Society. She also was a Sunday School teacher, and, along with
her husband, served as church custodian.
In her early life she was a Salvation Army officer and attended the Salvation
Army Training School in Chicago, Illinois.
Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Bennie (Mary) Williams, Kansas,
Oklahoma; a son, William Van Zile, Sturgis; four grandchildren, Katrina and
Faith Williams, both of Kansas, Oklahoma, and Kip and Shawn Van Zile, Sturgis; a
brother, Ernest Candahl, La Crosse, Wisconsin, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, George, Van Zile. On July 4, 1953; a
brother, Edgar, and a sister, Edith Laurent.
Services were held in the First Church of the Nazarene at 1 p.m. Monday,
November 30th, with the Rev. John Shoup officiating. Burial took place in Oak
Lawn Cemetery.
