Grendzinski, Hilda R. (16 FEB 1938 – 18 FEB 2020)

Hilda R. Grendzinski, age 82, of Thorp, WI, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at Oakbrook Health & Rehab in Thorp. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2020, at Thorp Funeral Home in Thorp. Rev. Daniel Vang officiated, and burial followed in New St. Hedwig's Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Darren Szczech Dustin Szczech, Dan Szczech, Jason Grendzinski, Brian Grendzinski, and Penny Person. Visitation was held on Saturday, at Thorp Funeral Home, from 1:00 p.m. until time of service.

Hilda Ruby Berg was born on February 16, 1938, in Ruby, WI (rural Chippewa County), the daughter of Elmer and Hazel (Olson) Berg. She was raised on the family farm and received her education at area schools. After completing her education, Hilda worked at Sip-n-Dip and at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Chippewa Falls for a couple of years. She was united in marriage to Alex R. Grendzinski, Jr. on November 19, I960; at St. Hedwig's Chapel in Thorp. Hilda then worked as a cook at the Dairy Bar Cafe in Thorp. After the Dairy Bar closed in 1998, Hilda went to work as a Dietary Aid at Oakbrook Health & Rehab in Thorp until her retirement. During her retirement, Hilda kept active by volunteering at the Thorp Senior Center.

Over the years, Hilda enjoyed bowling, reading Harlequin romance novels, listening to Elvis, and keeping track of the Royal Family. She especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great- granddaughter.

She was a member of the Thorp American Legion Auxiliary.

Hilda is survived by her four children: Anne (Dan) Szczech of Greenwood, Kevin Grendzinski of Weehawken, NJ, Brian (Shannon) Grendzinski of Thorp, and Jason Grendzinski (Linette Howell) of Blaine, MN; seven grandchildren: Dustin, Darren, Ashley, Angel, Alyssa, Antone, and Camryn; one great-granddaughter: Kenzie; six siblings: Darlene Walworth of Stetsonville, Earl (Barb) Berg of Gilman, Larry Berg of Thorp, David Berg of Thorndike, MA, Rita Jasmer of Withee, and Clarice (Gene) Hakes of Cadott; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Alex on November 18, 2019; her son, Justin Grendzinski, on June 6, 1980; two sisters: Beatrice Raether and Linda Couillard; and one brother, Roger A. Berg in infancy.
