U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant Paul J. Stangl, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Stangl
of 139 Fifth Avenue, Stanley (Chippewa Co.), Wisconsin, has received the
Distinguished Flying Cross for aerial achievement in Vietnam.
Sergeant Stangl earned the award for his performance as a C-7A flight engineer
when he and his crew completed a resupply mission to Tay Ninh Special Forces
Camp. Although enemy forces surrounded the area, the sergeant’s professional
skill during off-loading procedures kept ground time to a minimum and enabled
the crew to depart the area without damage.
He was honored at Castle AFB, California, where he is now serving with a unit of
the Strategic Air Command (SAC), as an aircraft maintenance specialist.
Sergeant Stangl is a 1967 graduate of Stanley-Boyd High School.
