Radke, Brenda (Engagement - 1985)
Mr. and Mrs. Larry Radke of Minnesota Lake, Minnesota are proud to announce the
engagement of their daughter, Brenda, to Dr. Michael Strobush, son of Mrs.
Dorothy Hughes of Hudson, and Jerry Strobush of Woodville.
Brend, a 1983 graduate of the University of Minnesota-Waseca in Animal Health
Technology, is currently employed at the Chetek Vet Clinic in Chetek, Wisconsin.
Michael is a 1983 graduate of the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary
Medicine and is a veterinarian at Grassland Vet Service in Granton. An August
31, 1985, wedding is being planned.

Scheel, Betty L.-Senior Airman (Service Notes - 1985)
Senior Airman Betty L. Scheel, daughter of Ralph and Dorthey Scheel,
Neillsville, recently graduated from the Noncommissioned Officer Preparatory
Course. Scheel is assigned to the 47th Field Maintenance Squadron as a crew
chief. She is a 1979 graduate of Neillsville High School.
The NCO Preparatory Course is designed to prepare airmen to assume the role of a
noncommissioned officer. Some areas covered include Air Force history, wear of
the uniform, physical fitness and leadership.
The course is two weeks long and is the first phase of professional military
education that will continue throughout the member’s Air Force Career.
Laughlin is one of the six undergraduate pilot training bases in the U.S. Air
Force located near Del Rio on the Rio Grande River, the base trains over 400 new
Air Force pilots each year using the T-37 and T-38 jet trainers.

Selz, John and Marianne (Progressive Breeder Award - 1985)
CONGRATULATIONS John & Marianne Selz, for being selected as one of five Master
Agriculturist in the State of Wisconsin for 1985.
A chemical engineer, John and his wife, Marianne returned to his home farm in
Clark County in 1959. Under their management, along with help from John’s
brother, Bill, the Selz operation has grown from 29 cows and 320 acres to 634
acres owned and 116 rented with 115 milking cows and 210 head of young stock,
all registered Holsteins.
Today Selz Farm cattle have nation and worldwide acceptance in cattle markets.
Selz received the “Progressive Breeder” Award for the 24th time.
As leaders, the Selz’s have been involved with the Holstein Breed Association at
both the State and National level. Locally, John has been active as a school
board member and in his church. Both John and Marrianne have been active for
years in the Jackson County 4-H program. John has served on the board of
directors of the Neillsville Bank for the past three years.

Bush, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne (55th – 1985)
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Bush wee surprised Sunday when their two daughters had them
and a group of others for brunch at Fannie’s Supper Club for their 55th wedding
anniversary. Later they all went to the Fritz Hediger home with folks coming
from Granton, Chili, Marshfield, Eau Claire and Mosinee to help celebrate.

Clare and Haxel Carlson of Sebring, Florida, formerly of Neillsville, will be
honored got their 50th wedding anniversary at an open house from 2-4 p.m., July
21, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Webster, South Dakota.
Hosts are their children, who invite all friends and relatives. They request no

Crockett, Mr. and Mrs. Allen (Golden – 1985)
Over 300 friends and relatives participated in the 50th wedding anniversary
celebration for Mr and Mrs. Allen Crockett. The celebration was held on June 30,
at the Neillsville Legion Hall.
Barbara Grzanna and Allen Crockett were married on April 24, 1935, at
Neillsville. Their attendants were Mary Ann (Grzanna) Opelt and Norbert Schmidt.
Norbert Schmidt was present for the anniversary celebration.
Barbara and Allen Crockett are currently residing on the Crockett family farm
where they began their married life. Over the years, they have been active in
several community organizations; some of which have been, Wisconsin Farmers
Union, St. Mary’s Catholic Parish, the Moose Lodge and the Township of Washburn.
In attendance were all of their children, Donald Crockett, Owen; Eugene Crocket,
Wichita, Kansas; Bruce Crockett, Los Galos, California; Gilbert Crockett,
Milwaukee; June Crockett Schmidt, Loyal; Dr. Edgar Crockett, Olympia,
Washington; Catherine Crockett Griesmer, Mosinee; Rita Crockett, Oklahoma City,
Oklahoma; Davy Crockett, Charlotte, North Carolina; and LeRoy Crockett, Sebring,
Florida. Joining the family in this celebration were many other relatives and
friends from Wisconsin, Illinois, California and North Dakota.

Roehl, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin (40th - 1985)
Mr. and Mrs. Alvin (Evelyn) Roehl, Spencer, celebrated their 40th wedding
anniversary Sunday, June 23 at the Sportsmen’s Club, Granton. The afternoon was
spent socially, including a light-hearted commentary by Evelyn’s brother, Elmer
Sanger, followed by a buffet for approximately 160 people.
Alvin was born May 6, 1913, at Chili to Mr. and Mrs. (Clara) Roehl. As a young
man, he worked on several farms before buying a farm southwest of Chili where
they farmed for many years. Evelyn was born March 11, 1924, in the Town of
Fremont to Mr. and Mrs. Ernest (Emma) Sanger. She graduated from Central State
Teachers College, Stevns Point and taught one year in a rural school near Loyal
before marrying.
They were married June 19, 1945, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Town of
Fremont, Clark County with the Rev. Edgar Milleville officiating.
Later, Evelyn resumed teaching and received her B.S. degree from the Wisconsin
State University-Stevens Point. She taught elementary grades for 22 years in the
Lone Elm, Nasonville and Loyal Public Schools, retiring in 1979. Alvin began
working for Berg Manufacturing Company in 1967 from which he retired in 1978.
They have lived at Spencer since 1975, but have remained members of Christ
Lutheran Church, Chili.
The couple has four children: Mrs. David (Sharlyn) Pullmann of McLean, Virginia;
Mrs. Duane (Marlene) Broeske of rural Abbotsford; Lavern Roehl of rural Spencer;
Mrs. Leonard (Bernette) Allemann of Abbotsford. They also have seven
grandchildren.
All of the attendants from the original ceremony were present for the Ruby
event. They are Mildred Faber of Granton, Leo Roehl of Chili, and Gerald and
Lila Nelson of Spencer.
Guests attended from McLean, Virginia; Rockford, Holcomb, and Stillman Valley,
Illinois; and Onalaska, Rice Lake, Chilton, Mondovi, Wis. Rapids, Wausau,
Marshfield, Abbotsford, Loyal, Neillsville, Chili, and Granton, all of
Wisconsin.

Alvin and Ethel Schutte, Rt. 1, Neillsville, celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary on June 22, with open house, dinner and a dance at the American
Legion Hall in Neillsville.
Alvin was born January 15, 1914. to John and Dorothea Schutte in the Town of
Pine Valley. He attended Hillside and St. John’s Lutheran Schools.
The former Ethel Durst was born September 14, 1910, in Fairchild and attended
the Cotton School in what is now the Town of Foster, and Fairchild High School.
They were married June 26, 1935, at the parsonage of St. John’s Lutheran Church,
with Rev. Baumann officiating. Attendants of the wedding at the celebration were
Betty (Durst), Marg and Henry Schutte.
The Schuttes have lived in the Town of Levis, Clark County, since 1938. They
have six children, Donald, Diane Buettner, both of Neillsville, Marvin, Luck,
Joanne St. John, Port Edwards; and Janice Stenulson and Darryl, both of Beloit.
They have 25 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Fr. Jim Lesczynski officiated during the 1:30 p.m. ceremony, Saturday, June 28
at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Neillsville, joining Amy Jean Poeschel and Robin
Hans Harder in marriage. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Poeschel,
305 Clay St., Neillsville, was escorted down the aisle by her father.
Attired in chiffon layered over taffeta, with off the shoulder lace ruffle, silk
flower wreath with fingertip length veil, carried a cascade bouquet of white
roses and colored lilies. Her matron of honor, Esta Mattice, Eau Claire,
attendants, Cindee Harder, Gilman, and Tonya Poeschel, Neillsville, wore taffeta
gowns of pink, lavender and blue respectively and carried three lilies in pink,
lavender and blue.
The groom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Harder, Rt. 1 Greenwood, wore a white
tuxedo. Bestman Larry Opelt, Neillsville, groomsmen, Grant Harder, Neillsville,
and Jeff Harder, Marshfield, wore white tuxedos with colored cummerbund and ties
to compliment the bridesmaids dresses.
Ushers were Bill Poeschel, Neillsville, and Steve Brey, Woodville. Music was
provided by organist Kris Herbrand and singers Angie Harder and Jane Kuhlman.
Following the ceremony, there was a reception and dance at the Neillsville
American Legion. After a wedding trip to Hawaii, the couple will reside at 312
Park St. Neillsville. Showers were given by Esta Mattice, Cindee Harder and
Tonya Poeschel.
A 1979 graduate of Neillsville High School, the bride is employed at Bob and
Caryl’s IGA and D and M department store. The groom, a 1978 graduate of the same
school and a 1980 graduate of District One Tech, Eau Claire, is employed by
Roehl Transport, Marshfield.
