Bittner, Martha M. (17 AUG 1882 – 15 SEP 1972)
Funeral services for Martha M. Bittner, age 90, a Gilman area resident, were
held at 9 a.m. Monday, Morning, September 18 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic
Church, Gilman, with Father Fredrick Brose officiating. Mrs. Bittner passed away
at the Zastrow Nursing Home in Gilman Friday afternoon.
She was born in Poland August 17, 1882, the daughter of John and Veronica Fudala.
She came to the U.S. in 1900 and in 102 was married to Mike Bittner in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After their marriage they lived in Chicago for five
years, and then lived in the Gilman area, where they farmed for many years. She
was preceded in death by her husband in 1963. She made her home at Zastrow
Nursing home in Gilman for the past 15 years.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Inga) Wajek of Cornell, and Miss
Mary Bittner of Chicago, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren (article
says nine great-great grandchildren, but does not mention great-grandchildren,
so I made an assumption that the nine were great-grandchildren).
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, one daughter
and two brothers.
