Wiernasz, Bernard “Ben” (19 MAR 1917 – 19 SEP 1972)
Bernard “Ben” Wiernasz, age 55, a former Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) resident, died
suddenly in Wausau, where he had resided for the past eight years. He was
stricken while at his job as meat cutter for Bob’s Surefine Market, and was
pronounced dead on arrival at a Wausau Hospital on September 19th, 1972.
Funeral services were held at Peterson Funeral Home and St. Matthew’s Catholic
Church in Wausau, on Friday, September 22nd. Interment was in Restlawn Memorial
Park in Wausau.
He was born in Racine, on March 19, 1917, son of the late Andrew Wiernasz and
Angeline Wiernasz, who resides in Thorp. On September 11, 1948 he was married to
Lucille Wojtkiewicz in Thorp. She survives.
He owned and operated the Wiernasz Meat Market in Thorp from 1940 to 1964, after
which he moved to Wausau. While residing in Thorp he was a member of the
American Legion, the Lions Club, and was a past president of the Thorp
Businessmen’s organization.
While residing in Wausau he was a member of the Stettin Lions Club, George
Schreier Council 1069 Knights of Columbus, treasurer of the Boy Scout Troop 430
of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, member of the men’s club of the church and the
ushers club.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Navy.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, Edmund and John, besides his father.
Survivors include his wife and mother; two sons, Michael and William, both at
home; one daughter, Betty Lu, at home; one brother, Frank of Hales Corners; two
sisters, Mrs. Lyle Asselin of Thorp and Mrs. Richard Gac of Fort Atkinson.
