Helen Mertens (07 Nov 1909 - 24 Apr 1984)

Mrs. Carl Mertens, 74, Dorchester, died at 7:02 a.m. Tuesday in the Marshfield hospital.

The former Helen Kronschnabl was born Nov. 7, 1909 in Dorchester, daughter of Joseph and Sarah Kronschnabl. She was married to Carl Mertens on Feb. 12, 1930. He survives.

Mrs. Mertens was a telephone operator for Midway Telephone Co., Dorchester, for many years. She was a member of the Ladies Catholic Order of Foresters.

Survivors besides her husband include two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Jeannine) Geohegan, Kenner, La., and Mrs. Patrick (Flossie) Keefe, Port Washington; two sons, Stephen, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Timothy, Park City, Utah; two sisters, Mrs. Clifford (Mildred) Herman, and Miss Cecelia Kronschnabl, both of Dorchester; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Louis Catholic Church, Dorchester. The Rev. James Schaefer will officiate and burial will be in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday at the Maurina Funeral Home, Dorchester, where there will be a Ladies Altar Society rosary at 4 p.m. Thursdays and a parish rosary a 8 p.m. Thursday.
