Vernon W. Brecke (30 May 1922 –12 Aug 2006)

Vernon W. Brecke, 84, died Aug. 12, 2006, at his residence under the care of his family and Hope Hospice.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Stetsonville. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Vernon was born May 30, 1922, in the town of Deer Creek to William and Bertha (Richwalski) Brecke. He was married to Betty Jari on July 29, 1944, at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Stetsonville.

He managed the Farmers Union Co-op Hardware Store in Medford for many years until his retirement, and also worked in the security business, first for Pinkerton, and then for Liberty until 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Brecke of Stetsonville; three daughters, Dianne (Jim) Sackmann of Onalaska, Sandra (Steve) Carmichael of Oconomowoc and Cheryl Lewis of Milwaukee; a son Duane (Linda) Brecke of Marshfield; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by a brother, Myron (Sharon) Brecke of Curtiss; and six sisters, Audrey Vircks of Medford, Gladys (Emil) Paur of Medford, Annabelle Holme of Milwaukee, Myrtle (Howard) Bedroske of Dorchester and Elva (Norman) Larson of Waupaca.
