Maida M. Peissig (11 May 1904 –14 Aug 1989)
Funeral services were conducted Thursday Morning at Sacred Heart Catholic Church
in Stetsonville for Mrs. Maida M. Peissig, 85-year old Town of Little Black
resident who died Monday, Aug. 14, at the continental Manor Nursing Home in
Abbotsford where she had resided the past five weeks.
Rev. James Blastic, associate pastor of Holy Rosary Catholic Church at Medford
officiated and burial took Place in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Town of Little
Black. Serving as pallbearers were Harold Carstensen, Artie Reiter, Jerome
Steevens, Patrick, Kelly and Brandley Ross and Andrew Peissig.
A lifetime Taylor County resident, the former Maida Mildred Carstensen was born
May 11, 1904, in the town of Little Black to the late Daniel and Theresa (Schuchardt)
Carstensen, immigrants from Schleswig, Germany. Her parents and grandparents
were early pioneers synonymous with Little Black and the history of Taylor
County.
She received her education at the Little Black School District No. 1 and at
Medford High School, graduating in 1924 from Taylor County Teachers College at
Medford. She also attended the former Normal School at Stevens Point.
Prior to her marriage she had taught from 1923 until 1933 in the rural
elementary schools of Taylor County.
Her marriage to George J. Peissig, who preceded her in death October 14, 1988,
took place November 28, 1933, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Nekoosa.
After their marriage the couple farmed in the Town of Little Black form 1938
until 1978. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary November 28, 1983.
Mrs. Peissig was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Women’s Catholic
Order of Foresters and St. Elizabeth’s Altar Society.
Surviving her are a son, Dennis, Stevens Point; and a daughter, Mrs. Carroll
(Marilyn) Ross also of Stevens Point; and four grandchildren.
