Chapman, Walter Leon (15 Mar. 1924 - 18 Oct. 1976)
Rites for Walter L. Chapman, 52, Alma Center, were at 10 a.m. today at
Immaculate Conception
Catholic Church here. Mr. Chapman died Monday at the Burn Center of the
University
Hospitals, Madison, as the result of injuries received while filling an
underground gasoline tank
in the Garden Valley area on Aug. 3.
Burial was in the Catholic Cemetery.
Mr. Chapman was born in Chicago and reared in Northern Wisconsin. He married the
former
Blanche Genrich on Sept. 11, 1946, at Abbotsford. She survives.
He moved to Black River Falls in 1955 and worked with the Janesville Auto
Transport Co. 15
years. He later took over a Standard Oil distributorship and moved to Alma
Center.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Dennis, Dean and Brian,
all at home, and
Jeffrey, Milwaukee; two daughters, Mrs. Verlyn Nelson, Black River Falls, and
Mrs. William
Rumpel, Grand Forks, N.D., and two grandchildren.
The family has suggested that memorials be made to the Alma Center Lions Club or
the softball
association.
