Vaughn F. Waldhart (29 Jun 1926 - 27 May 2013)

Vaughn F. Waldhart, 86, Ogema, died on Monday, May 27 at Deerview Meadows Assisted Living in Medford. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 31 at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Ogema, with Rev Dr. Bob Giese officiating. Interment will be at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Stetsonville at 2 p.m., with military rites performed by the Stetsonville American Legion Military Honors Team. Pallbearers are Seth Callaway, Casey Waldhart, Landon, Colton, Eric and Kyle Cummings and Justin Heizler.

Vaughn Waldhart was born on June 29, 1926 in the Town of Little Black to the late Fred and Ella (Arndt) Waldhart. He attended Liberty Elementary School in the Town of Little Black and Dorchester High School. He served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1945 during World War II in the European Theatre.

On June 1, 1950 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, he married Sylvia Mae Koch, who preceded him in death on November 11, 1981. He drove gravel, logging and gas trucks from 1946 to 1950. He purchased a milk route in 1950 and operated it for 16 years and at the same time operated a dairy farm in the Town of Deer Creek. He later sold the milk route and purchased a US Star Mail route in 1966. On August 4, 1989 in Phillips, he married Helen J. Pearson Cummings, who survives. They lived in the Town of Ogema.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church and Stetsonville American Legion Post No. 519. He enjoyed making maple syrup, puttering in the woods, fishing and gardening.

In addition to his wife, Helen, survivors include five children, Holly (Philip) Wachuta and Lee (Vicki) Waldhart, both of Stetsonville, Lynda Caskey of River Falls, Laurie (Thomas) Retzloff of Hartford and Sara (Robert) Fochs of Mosinee; five step-children, Cathy, Craig (Joyce), Randal (Jeanne), and Todd (Joan) Cummings, all of Ogema, and Jeff Cummings of Phillips; eight grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by three children, Ella and Ida Waldhart in infancy and Nancy in her youth; and three siblings, Hollis Waldhart, Edith Weigel, and Earl Waldhart in infancy.
