Albert C. Braun (19 Mar 1933 - 29 Oct 1993)
Albert C. Braun was born on March 19, 1933, in the town of Mayville, to Carl and
Bertha (Wigstadt) Braun. He married the former Connie Swender on April 12, 1966,
in Basel, Switzerland and pronounced their vows again in a religious ceremony in
Baumholder, Germany, where they both taught for the Department of Defense
Dependent Schools.
A 1951 graduate of Dorchester High School, he received his BS in Education
Degree in 1955 and Master’s Degree in 1971 from the University of Wisconsin in
Stevens Point.
He was a high school social science teacher, having taught in Antigo and
Brookfield, and for the past 20 years at Colby High School. During the years of
1957-62 and 1963-73, he taught for the Department of Defense Dependent Schools
overseas in Goose Bay, Labrador; Upper Heyford, England; Wiesbaden, Germany; and
Tokyo, Japan. His interest in world affairs was highlighted by travel to over 60
countries during his time with DODDS. In addition to teaching, he enjoyed
coaching and officiating volleyball, track, and cross country, as well as
advising various school clubs. He also was the announcer for the home games of
the Colby “Hornets” football team. He was currently advising the Colby National
Honor Society.
Mr. Braun was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church, serving as the
church treasurer and Sunday School teacher. He was the director in charge of
public relations for the Dorchester Recreational Park since 1986, an active
member of the Dorchester Lions Club, member of the Colby Education Association,
and the Wisconsin and National Education Associations.
Services were held on Tuesday, November 2, 1993 at Salem United Methodist
Church, Dorchester, with Rev. Bob Linaberry-Charis and Rev. Donald W. Swender
officiating. Interment was in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Connie; two sons, Scott P. and Stanton T.; his
father and mother-in-law, Lowell and Lois Swender; aunts, uncles and cousins.
Pallbearers were, Paul Johnson, Marvin Broeske, Jerry Brehm, Dan Wigstadt, Don
Medenwaldt, Ernie Mehner, Mark Steevens, and Gary Wolf. Honorary pallbearers
were Ron Hoffman, George Rau, Robert Braun and Marvin Steevens.
