LOYAL - George Paul Schmidt, 92, Marshfield, died April 30, 1999, at the Marshfield Living Center


A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated today at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Loyal with the Rev. Jerome Hoeser and the Rev. Roman Kaiser officiating. Burial was in St. Anthony's Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mike, Tom, Patrick, Ron and Dale Schmidt and Ken Goetz.

Visitation was held Sunday in Rinka Funeral Home with a prayer service.


He was born May 21, 1906, in York to Joseph and Mary (nee Pompo) Schmidt. He attended school for eight years in Loyal.


On May 1, 1928, he married Lorena Conrad at St. John's Catholic Church in Marshfield. They farmed for 40 years in the town of York. After retiring they moved to Marshfield where he worked as a security guard at the Marshfield Clinic until the age of 78.


He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Loyal and after moving to Marshfield, was a member of St. John's Catholic Church. For the past three and one-half years he resided at the Marshfield Living Center.


He is survived by his daughter-in-law, LaVonne Schmidt of Marshfield; two grandsons, Mike (Cheryl) Schmidt and Tom Schmidt of Marshfield; three great-grandchildren, Patrick, Jeremy and Mikayla Schmidt, all of Marshfield.


He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, three sisters; his only son, Duane "Pat" Schmidt; his grandson Wayne; and on April 25, 1999, his wife, Lorena.
