Kayla Oldham, a senior at Neillsville High School, was named the Neillsville
Junior Kiwanian for March.
Oldham, the daughter of Sandy and Steve Oldham, was welcomed as the recipient of
the recognition at the Neillsville Kiwanis Club’s March 3 meeting.
“In the 50-plus years the club has been honoring Neillsville students, you would
be hard-pressed to find an individual more deserving of this recognition than
Oldham,” Neillsville Kiwanian Brent Shoup wrote in a statement. ”Across all
areas of academics, athletics, extracurricular activities and community
involvement, she has demonstrated her desire to excel.”
Oldham is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, FFA and
the high school’s history and Spanish clubs. She has served four years on the
school’s student council and as a class officer. She has competed in regional
and state competition for National History Day, performed in Solo and Ensemble
and had been named to all-conference in choir.
She has also served as a group leader for the Teen Leadership Council, sung at
the Dorian Music Festival, achieved straight-A or A-average honor roll in every
quarter of high school and received the Outstanding Youth Award from the
Neillsville Optimist Club.
Oldham has competed in three sports. She was the co-captain on this year’s
Warriors basketball team that won a conference title. She was also a sectional
qualifier in hurdles in track. She was also captain of this year’s cross country
team. She also competes in trap shooting.
Oldham has also been involved in the community by assisting with activities at
school and the Neillsville Recreation Department in youth basketball and track.
She has taught Sunday school, served as a junior camp counselor, assisted with
church pancake suppers, and helped with 4-H fair activities. She has also worked
at Gross Motors part-time since 2016.
“The Neillsville Kiwanis Club is proud to have Kayla Oldham as its Junior
Kiwanian and wishes her continued Success as she pursues this next stage in her
life,” Shoup wrote.
Following graduation, Oldham plans to attend either the University of Minnesota
or the University of Wisconsin-Madison to major in nursing.
