Funeral services are to be held this (Thursday) afternoon at 1:30 p.m. from Zion
American Lutheran Church in the Town of Pine Valley for an area native, William
F. Beyer, Rt. 2 Neillsville, who died January 26 in Neillsville at the age of

Neillsville City Cemetery. The body of Mr. Beyer was to be in state at the
Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home from 4-9 p.m. Wednesday and this morning until noon,
and then lie in state at the church for an hour before services.
William Beyer, the son of William and Gustina Puttkamer Beyer, was born December
28, 1881, in the Town of Pine Valley and attended the Hillside School. He and
five brothers studied band music under Mr. Neuman of Neillsville and later, when
they moved to Portland, Or., continued their studies under Percy Campbell. They
played in the Campbell band for five years and then formed their own band and
played in the Portland area for another five years.
Mr. Beyer returned to Neillsville where he was married to the former Helen B.
Thoma on May 10, 1918. The couple farmed on the Beyer home farm in the Town of
Pine Valley and he served as town assessor for many years. Mr. Beyer was also a
federal land bank appraiser for Clark County during the 1930s. He helped
organize the Wisconsin Farmers Union and was manager of the Neillsville branch
for one year. Mr. Beyer and his father furnished the lumber for the Pine Valley
Lutheran Church, of which he was a member. He also helped build the church.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Mrs. Ernest
(Vivian) Horehled and Mrs. Melvin (Alma) Meck, both of Neillsville, and Mrs.
Arvid (Marion) Berger of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; one sister, Mrs. Earl (Hilda)
Phillips of Vancouver, Wa.; two brothers, August Beyer of Neillsville and Albert
Beyer of Portland, Or.; and 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
