An explosion and resultant fire last Wednesday destroyed a five room, two story
dwelling on the W.H. Szewezyk farm, 5 miles northeast of Thorp (Clark Co.,
Wis.), town of Hixon, just west of the Black River . The elderly Szewczyks lived
there with their son, Henry.
Mrs. Szewczyk became aware of a gaseous odor in the house and went to summon
Henry Szewczyk from the field. When they were within 150 feet of the house it
exploded into flames.
The Owen Fire Department arrived in time to save the other buildings. The
demolished house was built by Mr. Bowman in 1914.
