Erickson, Mr./Mrs. Thomas (60th – 23 February 1976)
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Erickson of Greenwood celebrated their 60th wedding
anniversary February 23 at their home in the Black River Apartments.
Present were relatives and friends, including Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Lyon and
daughter, Beth of Milwaukee.
Unable to attend because of the snowstorm were the couple’s only son, Burnell
Erickson, and his wife of Pardeeville, and their 16 children and their families.
The honored couple have 20 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Erickson, the son of Andrew and Bertha Erickson, was born May 30, 1889, in
Vanders, Norway. He came to the United States with his parents at the age of
four. The family settled in Blanchardville, where he received his education and
later worked as a farm laborer.
Mrs. Erickson, nee, Clara Gilbertson, was born November 6, 1892, near Argyle,
and received her education in the Adams Township School.
After their marriage, the Erickson’s lived for two years on a farm in in
Blanchardville. They came to Greenwood in 1918 and farmed for one year three
miles northeast of Greenwood, and then moved onto a farm 3 1/2 miles southeast
of Greenwood. When they retired from farming in 1934, they moved into the city
of Greenwood and for the last five years have resided in the Black Riverview
apartments.
The honored couple received many gifts and congratulation messages, including a
decorated anniversary cake, a basket of fruit, a purse of money and an
anniversary card from the participants and a staff of the Greenwood Nutrition
Center.
