With today’s newspaper the Thorp Courier starts its ninetieth years of
publication.
The first issue of this newspaper came out on November 12, 1883, with William
Wagner Sr. as its founder, editor and publisher until May 1943, when itw as
taken over by the late William S. Wagner until March 1965 at his death being
taken over by John J. LaGasse and Robert E. Elkins.
This establishment is the oldest in the Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) community and
has progressed with the times from a circulation of about 500 subscribers to the
present total of 3400.
The Courier has on its lists many subscribers who have been constant readers for
many years, and some who have received the newspaper a life time, and to these
and the loyal advertisers who have patronized the newspaper, the publication
owes its existence.
With such support the Courier can’t go wrong, and will continue to serve the
people of Thorp and vicinity in the future to the best of its ability and
benefit to all.
