Bender, Harold (20 February 1905 – 2 April 1976)

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday from the York Center United Methodist Church for Harold Bender, 71, long-time Town of York farmer who died in Neillsville early last Friday morning.

Services were conducted by the Rev. Gene Carlson, and burial was made in the York Center Cemetery. The Gilbertson Funeral Home at Granton was in charge of arrangements.

Music was furnished by Nyle Benedict and Milford Rowe, accompanied by Mrs. Milford Rowe.

Pallbearers were Richard Eibergen, Donald Rowe, Herman Seebandt, Clarence Hoesly, Franklin Walter and Joe Pernsteiner III.

Mr. Bender was born February 20, 1905, in Richland County. He was married November 9, 1946, York Center to the former Violet Poziombke. He lived in Columbus, Sherwood and Western Station for a time, and after his marriage he farmed in the Town of York until 1966, when ill health forced his retirement. He then lived in Owen in recent years. Mr. Bender was a veteran of World War II.

Surviving in addition to his wife are, a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Ruth) Strey of Owen; and two step-children, Mrs. Janet Andersen of Libertyville, Il., and Phyllis Haelen of Chicago, Il. Three sisters, Mrs. Helen Henninger of Granton; Mrs. Elsie Johanknecht and Mrs. Marie Johanknecht of Waupaca; three brothers, Vern of Chili; Forrest of Union Gap, Wa.; and Byron of Yakima, Wa.; and three grandchildren also survive.
