Hills, Anna Grace (4 November 1903-2 August 1996)
Anna Hills, 92, formerly of Loyal, died August 2, 1996, at Crestview Lutheran
Home in Minneapolis.
Funeral services will be Monday at the United Methodist Church, Loyal, with
interment at Pine Grove Cemetery.
The former Anna Grace Degen was born November 4, 1903, in the town of Beaver, to
the late Fred and Bertha (Schoettler) Degen. She attended Sunnyside rural school
and was a 1920 graduate of Loyal High School. In 1962, she received a B.S.
degree in elementary education from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
She was married to Harold Hills, August 14, 1920. For four years they lived on a
farm in the town of Levis. In 1925 they moved back to Loyal, where they remained
lifetime residents.
Her dream of teaching school was realized in 1944 when there was a shortage of
teachers and she was asked to teach at Mack School southeast of Loyal. Later she
taught at Spokeville, Maple Center School and Spencer Public Schools.
She retired in 1969 and celebrated her golden anniversary one year later. Her
husband died July 13, 1978.
She was a member of Loyal United Methodist Church, Pelsdorf Homemaker Club and
was a lifetime member of Clark County Historical Society.
Her survivors include one son, Dr. Eldon Hills of South Dakota; seven
grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents;
three sisters, Esther Brunt, Doris Collier, and Margaret Wolfe; one brother,
William; her husband; and one grandchild.
She is missed by many who fondly remember her love, commitment, Friendship and
sacrifices.

choice.
