Neilsen, George A. (9 October 1894 – 16 April 1976) With Flag

George A. Nielsen, Sr., 81, of Pittsville, a resident of rural Neillsville for many years, died early Friday morning, April 16, at the Riverview Manor Nursing Home in Wisconsin Rapids. Services were held Monday from St. John’s Lutheran Church, Pittsville, with the Rev. E.R. Keller officiating. The Taylor Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Nielsen, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jorgen Nielsen, was born October 9, 1984, in Adams County. His first marriage to the former Florence Blood took place June 26, 1921. She died in 1930. He was married to the former Sylvia Blood, who survives, on October 20, 1931, at Waukegan, Il.

Mr. Nielsen served as treasurer of the Town of Leola for many years. He served as a member of President Wilson’s honor guard in France during World War I and was a member of the Palmer-Ritchie American Legion Post, Pittsville.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four sons, Virgil of Kenosha, George, Jr., of Wisconsin Rapids, Glenn of Pittsville and Forrest of Grand Rapids, N.D.; five daughters, Mrs. Betty Maxwell of Beloit, Mrs. Lawrence Hegerlong of Ann Arbor, Mi., Mrs. David Stucki of Madison, Mrs. Daniel Rayburn of Pittsville and Mrs. Glen Hellwig of South Bend, In.; two brothers, Harold and Emil, both of Hancock; and 26 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
