Schulz, Mr./Mrs. Ernst W. (Gold – 29 JUN 1971)
Mr. and Mrs. Ernst W. Schulz of Colby celebrated their fiftieth wedding
anniversary Sunday, July 4th, 1971 with a special service at Zion Lutheran
Church, a family dinner for fifty children and grandchildren at the Colby Hotel,
and an open house at Zion Lutheran Gymnasium from 2 to 4 in the afternoon.
They received a colored portrait from their children and a money tree from their
grandchildren to commemorate the occasion.
Ernst Schultz and the former Elsie Feind were married June 29, 1921 at Zion
Lutheran Church by the Rev. A. Kirchhoefer. Mrs. Schulz’s brother, Julius Fiend
of Rochester, Minnesota, who was an attendant at the ceremony, was present for
the anniversary party.
They farmed west of Colby until semi-retirement in 1962, and they moved into the
city of Colby in 1966.
They are the parents of nine children: Mrs. Maynard (Minerva) Bauer, Colby;
Julius, West Allis, Calvin, Atwood; Mrs. David (Lucille) Brecher, Menlo Park,
California; Mrs. Vernon (Elaine) Boss, Curtiss; Dr. D.W. Schulz, Shawano;
Kenneth, Middleton; Mrs. Don (Grace) Casanova, Janesville, and a son, Allen who
died October 11, 1933. They have 30 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Ernst was born January 23, 1890, the son of Mr. and Mrs. August Schulz. He lived
on a farm west of Colby and was educated in the Colby School. He is a veteran of
World War I, a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, of which he was president for
ten years, clerk of the Town of Colby for 25 year, Coly High School Treasurer
for 30 years, various offices of the Legion Post and director of the cemetery
association. He enjoys playing card and gardening.
Elsie was born April 15, 1904, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Feind. She
was educated in the Colby schools. Her hobbies are card playing, crocheting and
sewing.
