Neillsville native Samariah Bautch will soon take the next step in her medical
career. She has completed her medical doctor degree and will start her residency
in July.
“I’m looking forward to being able to work with patients in a new role as
doctor,” said Bautch.
She will work at HCA Healthcare in Kansas City, MO. Her residency will last five
years, after which she will be able to establish her own practice, or she could
complete a fellowship to specialize in a certain area.
Bautch’s career journey began back in high school.
“I’ve always had a fascination with anatomy, gut to be honest it was my high
school science teacher Mrs. [Randi] Stanley who introduced me to biology and
anatomy and encouraged me to look at the medical profession as a career,” said
Bautch.
In 2010, Bautch graduated from Neillsville High School. She attended California
State University, Fresno for her bachelor’s degree. After completing her
bachelor’s, she attended the Ross University School of Medicine, which has its
main campus in Bridgetown, Barbados. Bautch studied and lived on the Island of
Dominica, which is southeast of Puerto Rico in the Caribbean Sea. She received
her MD in November 2019 and afterward received her placement in general surgery
at HCA Healthcare.
When Bautch began her schooling, she wasn’t sure what area of medicine she
wanted to study, but that became increasingly clear.
“When I had my rotation in surgery, I loved the ability to work with my hands
and to help patients in that regard,” said Bautch. “Along my time in medical
school, I narrowed my focus to surgery.”
Bautch already had quite a bit of experience in the medical field. Previously,
she worked as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) at Marshfield Medical
Center-Neillsville. She continued working as a CNA all throughout her
undergraduate program and also did homecare.
“Now, I’m excited to have a greater impact and greater role in patient care. I
am looking forward to being able to ease people’s pain.”
Bautch is the daughter of Wendy Proffitt of Neillsville and Charles Bautch of
St. Paul, MN. Both are also Neillsville graduates.
