Hughes, Gertrude (3 June 1911-29 January 1981)

NEILSVILLE-- Mrs. Gertrude J. Hughes, 60, Seattle, Washington, a former Granton area resident, died Thursday at Northwest Hospital in Seattle.

Services will be Monday at Gesche Funeral Home. The Rev, Horst W. Augustin of Zion Lutheran Church is to officiate. Neillsville Cemetery will be the burial site.

Mrs. Hughes was born June 3, 1911 at Rocham, South Dakota to Alfred and Bertha (Albrecht) Bartz and was educated in the Granton area. She attended several colleges and taught in rural school in Clark County.

In 1964, she moved to Ventura, California, and was math coordinator of schools there. She moved to Washington in September 1980. Death followed a brief illness.

Her marriage to Donald W, Hughes took place May 25, 1940 in Granton. He died October 28, 1980.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. William (Bonnie) Wagner and Mrs. Bob (Mary) Larsen, both of Seattle, and Mrs. Jerry (Bette) Scheffer of Vancouver , British, Columbia; one son, Michael Hughes of Santa Barbara, California; five sisters, Mrs. James (Irma) West and Mrs. LeNore Klix, both of Neillsville, Mrs. Gerald Fox of Garland, Texas, Mrs. Vincent (Evelyn) Haase of Neenah and Mrs. Jim (Kathryn) Voight of Marshfield; one brother, Lawrence Bartz of Marinette; and six grandchildren.
