Law and Enforcement-Serving and Protecting (15 May 2020)
Law enforcement officers throughout America this week are being honored for
their service and sacrifices during National Police Week. The origins of the
week came from a proclamation by President John F. Kennedy in 1962 making May 15
National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week of May 15 National Police
Week. It was established through a joint resolution of Congress that year to pay
special recognition to officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. Shown
are members of the Neillsville Police Department, including (l-r) officer Ben
Zawislan, Sgt. Patrick Fehlman, Chief Jim Mankowski and officers Brett Chwala
and Jason King. Photo by Ryan Spoehr/Clark County Press
