Alsterberg, Karen R. (Scholarship - 1976)
Karen R. Alsterberg, of Neillsville has been awarded a yearly renewable $600
scholarship by Modern Woodmen of America, a fraternal insurance society with
home offices in Rock Island, Il.
She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry H. Alsterberg, Neillsville and the
granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Marek of Granton.
Karen earned her scholarship in open competition with other high school seniors
in one of six geographic areas of approximately equal Modern Woodmen Junior
membership.
College aptitude of the applicants was judged by a panel of eminent educators.
Evaluation criteria included scores of college aptitude tests, scholastic
records, and leadership and character traits.
Miss Alsterberg plans to major in psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Eau
Claire.
She was a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society at
Neillsville High School; was editor of the school’s 1976 yearbook; participated
in student government and entered school art shows; and was class salutatorian.
