Goessl, Mr./Mrs. Irving (Gold – 10 NOV 1971)

Mr. and Mrs. Irving Goessl observed their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday with all of their nine children and their families present for the anniversary Mass at St. Louis Catholic Church and “open house” in Memorial Hall, Dorchester. The Rev. Gerald Schuh celebrated the Mass and conferred the blessing of the church upon the honored couple.

Their son, Hebert Goessl, served as lector at the Mass. A grandson, Bruce Goessl, and two great-grandsons, Brian and Patrick Lehman, Stetsonville, were altar boys. Sister Celine, a daughter of the Goessls, directed the adult choir from St. Joseph’s Church of Rhinelander, which sang for the Mass. Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Gutenberger, Colby, escorted the Goessls down the aisle in the church. Mrs. Gutenberger, the former Anna Engel, was an attendant at their wedding 50 years ago.

Irving Goessl was born November 19, 1885 in the Town of Hoard, Clark County. Theresa Decker was born November 18, 1902, in the Town of Little Black, Taylor County. They were married November 10, 1921 in St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Milwaukee. After their marriage they farmed the home place where he was born.

In 1936 they bought an adjoining farm, and after turning their home place over to their son Hebert, they moved onto the other farm, where they still reside. Goessl served as secretary for the Cloverhill Cooperative Chees Factory for 28 years. They are members of the Catholic Order of Foresters and of the Dorchester Senior Citizens.

Their children are: Clarence Goessl and Orlando Goessl of Medford; Hebert and Peter, Town of Hoard; Theodore, Marshfield; Mrs. John Nuernberger (Marcella) Benson, Arizona; Mrs. John Kapfhamer (Mercedes) Stetsonville; Mrs. Roy Gutenberger (Ethel), and Sister Celine, Rhinelander. They have 50 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

About 300 persons attended the open house at the hall and the supper which followed. The hall was decorated with gold and white streamers. The anniversary cake, decorated with gold flowers and topped with a “50” was made by a granddaughter, Mrs. Bill Grinker of Milwaukee. Included in the many gifts they received were a television set from their children; a recliner chiair from the grandchildren, and a money tree from the brothers and sisters.

Relatives and friends here from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. David Goessl, Putnam Valley, New York; Levant Akca, Denizli, Turkey, an exchange student at Tomahawk, who is residing with the Roy Gutenberger family; Mr. and Mrs. John Nuernberger and daughter Susan, Benson, Arizona; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Goessl and family, California; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Goessl, Denmark; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Goessl, Fort Atkinson, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bohte, Franklin; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Grinker, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. John Goessl, Hartford; Mrs. Charles Goessl, Mrs. John Goessl, and Mrs. Carl Haws, Two Rivers; Mr. and Mrs. Leon Forslund, Neenah; Mrs. Gust Forslund, Menasha; and many relatives and friends from surrounding towns.
