Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Courtney, Colby, are the winners of the Holtz and Barnett
Soil Service, Inc. 1971 Corn Growing contest. The Courtneys will be departing
from the Mosinee Airport for a 4-day and 3-night trip to Tampa, Florida.
The Courtney farm produced 167,243 (?) bushels of number two corn per acre,
following the advice of the personnel at Holtz and Barnett. Wisconsin’s average
corn yield per acre is 92 bushels.
The Holtz and Barnett Soil Service, Inc. tested their soil, and recommended the
amount of lime necessary, the type of fertilizer needed, and what chemicals to
use for weed and insect control to be applied.
Another corn growing contest is being planned for the 1972 season, and will be
open to all who take advantage of the soil service at Holtz and Barnett.
