Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Schmelzer, Colby, announce the engagement of their daughter,
Betty Jean, and Sergeant Walter R. Joch, son of Mrs. Ludmella Joch, Arpin.
Miss Schmelzer is a 1970 graduate of Colby High School and is a musician in the
Jolly Musicians band of Wausau. Her fiancé served two and a half years in
Vietnam and is now stationed in Germany.
Their wedding plans are indefinite.

A wedding trip enroute to Texas, where the bridegroom is station with the U.S.
Army at Fort Hood, follows the nuptials of Miss Betty Jean Schmelzer and Walter
R. Joch.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Schmelzer, Route 1, Colby, was given in
marriage by her father to the son of Mrs. Ludmella Joch, Route 1, Arpin, during
a 2 p.m. ceremony, May 11, 1974 in Zion Lutheran Church at Colby. The Rev.
Michael L. Rogers from Ord, Nebraska, officiated at the rites, whole Miss Debra
Pankow provided music.
For her day the bride selected a Renaissance gown of Chantilly lace with chapel
train. A headpiece of matching lace and satin petals held her fingertip veil,
and she carried a cascade arrangement of yellow sweetheart roses, white
carnations and Fugi mums.
Miss Sandy Baneck, Menomonie, was maid of honor, and Mrs. Wilmer Schmelzer,
Colby and Mrs. Delmer Schmelzer, Spencer, were bride’s matrons. Their green
floral dresses were complemented by baskets filled with yellow carnations and
white pompons.
Leonard Joch, Arpin, served as best man, and Willmer and Delmer Schmelzer were
groomsmen. Don Cepress and Wolfgang Lenk seated the guests for the ceremony,
which was followed by a reception and dance at Trianon Ballroom at Edgar.
The new Mrs. Joch graduated in 1970 from Colby High School. She had been a
musician with BJ’s Duo. Her husband attended Auburndale High School and Army
Schools.
Approximately 235 guests attended the wedding. Guests were from Omro; Ohio,
Arizona, Missouri, Indiana, Joliet, Illinois, Belvidere, Illinois, Madison,
Stoddard, Nebraska, Wausau, Merrill, Marshfield, Colby, Abbotsford, and
Dorchester.
Their Texas address will be: Sgt. And Mrs. Walter Joch, 607 ½ Vermont, Apartment
A, Kaileen, Texas 76541.
