Barfknecht, Gertrude (1 April 1909 - 28 April 1981)

WITHEE -- Mrs. Gertrude Barfknecht, 72, died today at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, where she was admitted April 14.

The funeral will be Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, the Rev. Douglas R. Groenewold officiating. Burial will be in Rice Lake Cemetery. Friends may call at Maurina Funeral Home, Owen.

The former Gertrude Bender was born April 7, 1909 in Barron. She attended Taylor County Normal School at Medford and Eau Claire State College. She worked at Neillsville as a special education teacher.

She lived in the Chetek and Rice Lake area until 1961, then moved to New Ulm, Minnesota, and in 1962 moved to the Owen-Withee area.

On June 23, 1927 at Almena, she and Frederick Barfknecht were married. He died in 1959.

A daughter, Mrs. Warren (Carol) Brown of Withee, and two grandchildren, survive.
