DeMert, Gust A. (29 May 1914 - 27 April 1981)

NEILLSVILLE -- Services will be Friday at United Church of Christ for Gust A. DeMert, 66, Route 4. He was dead on arrival of an apparent heart attack Monday evening at Memorial Hospital.

The Rev. Gary L. Clark is to officiate and burial will be in Neillsville Cemetery. Friends may call at Gesche Funeral Home.

Mr. DeMert was born May 29, 1914 in Marquette County and educated there. His parents were Edward and Pauline (Hallmann) DeMert. The family moved to Wood County, where he finished his education. He then moved to this area.

His marriage to the former Gertrude E. Northup took place February 15, 1939 at Waukon, Iowa. They farmed in the town of York until 1958. He was employed by Nelson Muffler Corp. here from 1958 until retiring in April 1980. He was a member of United Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Dennis DeMert of Stoughton; three sisters, Mrs. Robert (Viola) Manteufel, Mrs. Richard (Emma) McCracken and Eleanore DeMert, all of Seattle, Washington and one brother, Lawrence DeMert of Neillsville.

Two brothers and two sisters are deceased.
