Markwardt, Fannie (23 September 1895 – 11 July 1976)
A Neillsville resident since 1941, Mrs. Henry (Fannie) Markwardt, 80, died
Sunday, July 11, following a brief illness. Funeral services were to be held
Wednesday at 1;30 p.m. from the Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary
Clark of the United Church of Christ officiating. Burial was to be in the
Neillsville City Cemetery.
Mrs. Markwardt, the daughter of Charles B. and Katherine Johnson Appleyard, was
born September 23, 1895, in Jefferson and came to Neillsville rea in 1901 with
her parents. She received her education in Neillsville area schools, then did
domestic work locally until her marriage to Henry M. Markwardt. The Markwardts
were married August 20, 1924, in Neillsville, and then farmed in the towns of
York, Pine Valley and Weston before moving to the city in 1941.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include one daughter, Mrs. Keith (Evelyn)
Lea of Stevens Point; two sisters, Mrs. Mayme Imig of Neillsville and Mrs. Anne
Mattson of Burlington; one brother, Fred Appleyard of Neillsville; and two
grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Markwardt, Fannie (23 September 1895 - 11 July 1976)
Funeral services were held July 14 from the Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home for Mrs.
Henry (Fannie) Markwardt, 80, of Neillsville, who died July 11. The Rev. Gary
Clark of the United Church of Christ officiated, and burial followed in the
Neillsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Walter Johnson, Arden Hinkelmann, Herb Schiltz, Roy Chase, Tony
Erpenbach and Ray Moen.
Kendall Smith sang “In The Garden” and “How Great Thou Art.” Mrs. Mary Heineck
was the accompanist.
