Packaging Corporation of America honored twenty-eight of its employees,
twenty-two from the Colby operation and six from the Wausau office, at its
eighth annual service award banquet, with festivities at the Colby Hotel on
Saturday, October 30, 1971.
Wausau guests included Mr. R.R. Pekar, Sales Manager, Wausau, and his wife and
Gerald Worde, International Representative of AFL-CIO, Pulp Sulphite and Paper
Mill Workers, and his wife.
D.J. Zwirchitz, Plant Manager of the Colby plant gave the welcome address, acted
as master of ceremonies, and introductions were made of all in attendance.
V.B. Pielage, General Manager, located at the Wausau office, gave the
invocation. He later expressed appreciation to the loyal employees for their
years of services, totaling 255 years, followed by his presentation of the
services award pins and charm bracelets to the following:
- 20-year pins to: Harold Baumgart and Jim Beyerl, both of Colby.
- 15- year pins to: Henry Carr, David Motelet, Wm. Sterzinger, all of Colby, and
Acton Reavill, Wausau.
- 10-year pins to: James Davis and June Peters of Wausau; Greg Majerus, Dale
Ridderbusch, Harry Zrutskie, and Jerome Zygowicz of Colby.
- 5-year pins to: Pal Degenhardt, James Hollman, Peter Johnson, Gary Krauter,
Dean Loos, Edwin Ludwig, Norman Olson, Esther Peissig, Reuben Schafer, Robert
Schroeder, David Starr, Norbert Tomczyk and Mae Underwood of Colby; Judith Karow
and Margaret Maderich of Wausau.
Pielage, being honored for 20 years of service, had his pin presented to him by
his wife, Mariann.
Upon completion of the presentation of awards, which is an annual event honoring
employees each five years of service, Pielage spoke of the progress and
expansion of Packaging Corporation, a nationwide organization with 57
strategically located plants.
