Kalsow, Ida B. (31 December 1888 – 30 July 1976)
A long-time resident of the Town of Weston, Mrs. Ida B. Kalsow, 87 of 404 Forest
St., Neillsville, died July 27, following a brief illness. Funeral services were
held Friday, July 30, from Immanuel Lutheran Church, Globe, with the Rev. Ralph
Stuebs officiating. Burial was in the Neillsville City Cemetery. The
Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Kalsow, the daughter of Gottlieb and Johanna Zofchnick Mollig, was born
December 31, 1888, in the Neillsville area and was educated in local schools.
Her marriage to Lebrecht Kalsow took place October 10, 1906, in the Town of
Weston. Mr. Kalsow preceded his wife in death in May of 1972. They had observed
their 65th anniversary in 1971.
The Kalsows farmed in the Town of Weston for many years and moved to Neillsville
after they retired. Mrs. Kalsow was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and a
charter member of its Ladies Aide Society. She was a long-time Globe
correspondent for The Clark County Press.
Survivors include one son, Roland Kalsow of Neillsville; two sisters, Mrs. Anna
Pischer of Granton and Mrs. Paul (Elsie) Kalpin of Payette, Id.; and five
grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Martin Kalsow, Raymond Kalsow, Hans Kalsow, Frederick Grap,
Sr., Raymond Keuer and Harvey Pischer.
“What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” “Asleep in Jesus” and “Jesus! And Shall it
Ever Be” were sung by the Congregation. The organist was Mrs. Virginia Thoma.
Among those attending the services were the following from out of town: Helene
and Petra Kalsow, St. Paul, Mn.; Mr. and Mrs. James Tank, Eunice and nathan,
Brillion; Mrs. Russell Wold and Timothy and Cathy Wold, Appleton; Mr. and Mrs.
Paul Klauer and Mrs. Emil Heise, Berlin; Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Grap, Rockford,
Il.; and Walter Grap, Milwaukee.
Relatives and friends from Marshfield, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal and surrounding
areas also attended the services.

Chancellors’ award for academic excellence during the second semester at

Moldenhauer, Paul M. (Ordained – 18 July 1976)
Paul M. Moldenhauer, a 1968 graduate of the Loyal High School, was ordained into
the ministry at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Wausau, July 18. The Rev. Larry J.
Henrickson, pastor of the church, conducted the services assisted by the Rev.
Phillip Williams of Wausau.
Following the ordination, the ladies of the church served refreshments during a
reception on the church lawn.
After high school, Paul Moldenhauer had continued his education at Golden Valley
Lutheran College, Golden Valley, Mn., and at the University of
Wisconsin-Superior prior to entering Luther Theological Seminary at St. Paul, Mn.,
where he received his Master of Divinity degree May 30.
The Rev. Moldenhauer has accepted a call to Dunseith, N.D. His wife is the
former Rebecca Borth.

Ziegler, Augusta (93rd – 1 July 1976)
Mrs, Augusta Ziegler of Neillsville was the guest of honor Saturday at a party
in observance of her 93rd birthday on Sunday, August 31.
Fifty-five well-wishers gathered for the occasion at the home of Mrs. Ziegler’s
son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Ziegler, in Neillsville. Other
children present were Mr. and Mrs. Fred (Arnita) Hoffmann of Ladysmith and Mr.
and Mrs. Fred (Alvina) Babbe of Crosby, Mn., Lil Hoffmann of Ladysmith and Mr.
and Mrs. Clarence Ziegler of Milwaukee. Another son, Harold, of Benson, Mn.,
called on his mother earlier last week.
Among the many congratulatory cards and letters, she received were greetings
from President Gerald Ford and from Governor Patrick Lucey.
Mrs. Ziegler has been a resident of the Neillsville Community since coming to
the United States from Germany at the age of 12. She lives alone and does her
own housework. Because her eyesight is failing, her meals are prepared by her
daughter-n-law, Frances, who lives about half a block away.

Verhulst, Mr./Mrs. Clarence (Golden – 9 December 1976)
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Verhulst of Greenwood celebrated their 50th wedding at an
open house Saturday, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greenwood, from 2 to 5
p.m., and a reception held at 8 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Verhulst.
Their children were hosts.
The anniversary cake was made by a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Lyle Verhulst. Cutting
the cake were the sisters of Mrs. Verhulst, Mrs. Joyce Luther of Eau Claire and
Mrs. Grace Haupt of Elkhorn. The grandchildren were at the guest book and served
the punch.
Preceding the reception at the church, a short service of thanksgiving was held
in the church and conducted by the Rev. David Wenger, pastor. A grandson Thomas
Verhulst accompanied in the singing of the hymns, and a son, Harold Verhulst,
spoke briefly on behalf of the family.
An old-fashioned charivari was given by relatives and friends at the open house
in the evening. The grandchildren performed a mock wedding for the couple. A
dance with music provided by Donna Abel was the entertainment for the evening.
Mrs. Verhulst wore a corsage of yellow roses and her husband wore a carnation
and rose boutonniere. All members of the immediate family wore corsages and
boutonnieres as well as well as the attendants, Mrs. Celan (Harriet) Gotter of
Loyal, a sister of Mr. Verhulst and Leonard Johnson of Greenwood, an uncle of
Mrs. Verhulst. A floral arrangement of yellow carnations and daisies given by
the grandchildren and great-grandchildren was used as the centerpiece at the
head table.
Clarence Verhulst and Esther Johnson were married December 9, 1926, by the Rev.
D.S. Householder, pastor of the Grace Methodist Church, at the house of the
bride’s parents. After their marriage they farmed in the Town of Warner from
1928 to 1955. He worked at the Midland Cooperative from 1955-1965. Since 1965 he
had part time work with the Telephone Company and cemetery custodian. He retired
in 1965.
Clarence Verhulst, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Verhulst, was born October 7, 1901,
in Sheboygan. He received his education in the Longwood Public schools.
Mrs. Verhulst, the former Esther Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter M.
Johnson, was born June 19, 1903, in the Town of Eaton. She received her
education in the Town of Beaver schools. Mr. and Mrs. Verhulst are both in good
health. His hobbies are fishing and gardening. His wife enjoys sewing, quilting
and crochet work.
He was supervisor of the Town of Warner for two years; member of the board of
Christopherson School for 12 years; on the church council and head usher at Our
Savior’s Lutheran Church. They are members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and
participate in the parish organizations.
They are the parents of four children. They have 12 grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren. The children are Lyle Verhulst of Loyal; Kenneth Verhulst
of Marshfield; the Rev. Harold Verhulst of Milbank, S.D.; and Miss Corrine
Verhulst of Los Angeles, Ca., who, with their families, were all present for the
occasion.
People attending the anniversary from a distance were from New Berlin, Elk
Mound, Palmyra, Pittsville, Coloma, Cadott, Owen, Elkhorn, Eau Claire,
Watertown, Stevens Point, Sheboygan, Marshfield, Superior, and Withee,

Miss Rebecca Lea Berger became the bride of Mark Allen Lange in a 2 p.m.
ceremony performed Saturday, July 31, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses
in Neillsville. Robert Dominique of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses,
Menomonie, officiated.
The bride, presented in marriage by her father, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Jerome Berger of Rt. 2 Neillsville. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lange, Rt. 1 Ridgeland,
are the groom’s parents.
An old-fashioned bouquet of white daisy-mums, baby’s breath and miniature blue
carnations accented the bride’s empire-waist gown of ivory voile styled with a
V-neckline, full, sheer, long sleeves with insertion lace and a hemline ruffle.
Her attendants’ identically-styled gowns were in shades of lemon yellow and
apple green, with white hats and matching ribbons. Dianne Lee Moore, Bloomer,
honor attendant, and Connie Betley, Conrath, bridesmaid, carried white wicker
fireside baskets with yellow daisy-mums, green carnations and baby’s breath.
Rick Allen Littlefield, Bloomer, served as bestman and Terry Allen Berger, as
groomsman. Bryon Berger and Mike Pressel, Eau Claire, seated guests.
A reception at the American Legion Hall followed the ceremony.
The new Mrs. Lange attended Nei8llsville High School. Her husband attended
Colfax Senior High School and the Eau Claire Technical Institute. He is engaged
in dairy farming. The couple will live on Rt. 1 Ridgeland.

Marriage vows were exchanged Saturday, July 31, at Trinity Lutheran Church,
Loyal, by Miss Paula Luchterhand and Duane Brey. The Rev. E.T. Keller officiated
at the 1 p.m. ceremony for the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Luchterhand, Rt.
2 Spencer, and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Brey, Rt. 2, Pittsville.
Presented in marriage by her parents, the bride appeared in an empire-bodice
organza gown detailed with venise lace and fashioned with a sheer yoke, lantern
sleeves, flounced hemline and chapel train. The gown was complimented by an
elbow-length lace veil. Colored carnations, white roses and baby’s breath formed
the bridal bouquet.
Renee Luchterhand, Spencer, was the bride’s honor attendant. Acting as
bridesmaids were Debbie Pockrandt of Loyal, Sue Arbelovsky of Kenai, Ak., Mrs.
Julie Miltamore of Plainfield and Mrs. Beth Sherwood of Eau Claire. They wore
empire-waist, square-neckline gowns of rainbow-hued dotted Swiss and carried
bouquets of colored carnations and white daisies with baby’s breath.
The groom was attended by Darrell Brey as bestman and by Gary Luchterhand of
Loyal, Gary Florence of Pittsville, Russ Miltamore of Plainfield and Gary
Sherwood of Eau Claire as groomsmen. Guests were seated by Chuck Schmidtke and
Gary Brey.
Michael Voss was the miniature groom and M8ichelle Voss, the miniature bride.
Special music included the selections “Laught4er in the Rain,” “Our Wedding
Prayer” and “Wedding prayer.”
The Loyal American Legion Hall was the setting for a reception and dance.
The bride attended Loyal Public Schools and is employed by a Marshfield firm.
Her husband, who attended Pittsville Public Schools, works for the wood County
Highway Department. The newlyweds are making their home on Rt. 1 Pittsville.

Mr. and Mrs. Michael Artac, who were married July 17 at Holy Family Catholic
Church, Willard, by the Rev. John Heagle, are making their home on Rt. 1
Willard.
The former Miss Ellen Raine, the bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Darrel
Raine, Rt. ! Neillsville. She was present in marriage by her father. Mr. and
Mrs. Ludwig Artac, Rt. 1, Willard at the groom’s parents.
A fingertip illusion veil held by a lace cap headpiece framed the bride’s gown
of woven polyester fashioned with a princess-seamed skirt attached to a bodice
featuring long lace sleeves gathered to loop and button-closed cuffs. Her
flowers were yellow roses and rosebuds with white carnations.
Miss Emile Ranie was the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Pat Artac, Eau
Claire, and Mrs. Eunice Artac, Greenwood. Their high-waist mint green crepe
gowns styled with princess skirt seaming and long, cuffed sleeves, were
complimented by bouquets of yellow roses and rosebuds with white carnations.
Yellow roses and green ribbons adorned their hair.
Serving as bestman was Alan Debevec, Willard. Lawrence Artac, Greenwood, and
Joel Raine acted as groomsmen. Tim Kren and john Trunkel, Jr., shared ushering
duties.
Mis Pam Suda was the organist and Laura Lesar, the vocalist.
A reception was held at the parish center.
The bride was honored at prenuptial showers given by Cookie Raines at her home
in Neillsville and by Frieda Adams, Pat Artac and Doris Berzinski in Willard.
The new Mrs. Artac is a graduate of Neillsville High School. Her husband
graduated from Greenwood High School and in engaged in farming. They planned a
wedding trip to the west coast.

James V. Conkey, 65, of Rt. 2 Neillsville, was pronounced dead on arrival
Sunday, August 1, at Memorial Hospital. Mr. Conkey died suddenly at his home.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home with the

Born July 4, 1911, in Kansas City, Mo., to Mr. and Mrs. James Conkey, he
received his education in the Kansas City area. He moved to Chicago where he
worked in the hotel business and later was employed by Pan American Airlines and
Air France as manager in their Chicago offices. After that Mr. Conkey worked as
a travel agent and was president and owner of All Tours Travel Systems, Inc., of
Chicago at the time of his death. He was a member of the American Society of
Travel Agents.
His marriage to the former Victoria Heighes took place September 8, 1956, in
Chicago.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three step-children, James Ombrello
and Mrs. Joseph (Mary Ann) Argall of Ishpeming, Mi., and Margaret Ombrello of
Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sisters, Mrs. George (Minna) Derry of Huntington Beach, Ca.,
and mrs. William (Elizabeth) Schroff of McLean, Va.; two brothers, Charles
Conkey of Azusa, Ca., and Ted Van Alen of LaVerne, Ca.; and nine grandchildren.

Kalsow, Ida B. (31 December 1888 – 30 July 1976)
A long-time resident of the Town of Weston, Mrs. Ida B. Kalsow, 87 of 404 Forest
St., Neillsville, died July 27, following a brief illness. Funeral services were
held Friday, July 30, from Immanuel Lutheran Church, Globe, with the Rev. Ralph
Stuebs officiating. Burial was in the Neillsville City Cemetery. The
Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Kalsow, the daughter of Gottlieb and Johanna Zofchnick Mollig, was born
December 31, 1888, in the Neillsville area and was educated in local schools.
Her marriage to Lebrecht Kalsow took place October 10, 1906, in the Town of
Weston. Mr. Kalsow preceded his wife in death in May of 1972. They had observed
their 65th anniversary in 1971.
The Kalsows farmed in the Town of Weston for many years and moved to Neillsville
after they retired. Mrs. Kalsow was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and a
charter member of its Ladies Aide Society. She was a long-time Globe
correspondent for The Clark County Press.
Survivors include one son, Roland Kalsow of Neillsville; two sisters, Mrs. Anna
Pischer of Granton and Mrs. Paul (Elsie) Kalpin of Payette, Id.; and five
grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Martin Kalsow, Raymond Kalsow, Hans Kalsow, Frederick Grap,
Sr., Raymond Keuer and Harvey Pischer.
“What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” “Asleep in Jesus” and “Jesus! And Shall it
Ever Be” were sung by the Congregation. The organist was Mrs. Virginia Thoma.
Among those attending the services were the following from out of town: Helene
and Petra Kalsow, St. Paul, Mn.; Mr. and Mrs. James Tank, Eunice and nathan,
Brillion; Mrs. Russell Wold and Timothy and Cathy Wold, Appleton; Mr. and Mrs.
Paul Klauer and Mrs. Emil Heise, Berlin; Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Grap, Rockford,
Il.; and Walter Grap, Milwaukee.
Relatives and friends from Marshfield, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal and surrounding
areas also attended the services.
