Duckett, Torpedoman’s Mate 2-c Gerald A. (Service Notes - 1976)
Torpedoman’s Mate 2-c Gerald A. Duckett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin C. Duckett of
Rt. 1 Owen, is participating in “Operation 200” as a crewmember of the destroyer
USS Damato.
The operation consists of a complex series of fleet readiness exercises. Under
the overall direction of Vice Admiral John J. Shanahan, Commander of the U.S.
Second Fleet, the seven-week exercise involves more than 30 ships from the
Atlantic Fleet and includes Marine Cops landing forces plus Navy and Marine
Corps aviation units.
A former student of Sonoma Valley High School, Sonoma, Ca., Duckett joined the
Navy in December 1971. His ship is homeported at Newport, R.I.
