Marwardt, Henry M. (11 July 1897 - 5 July 1981)

NEILLSVILLE -- Services will be Wednesday at the Gesche Funeral Home for Henry M. Markwardt, 83, 340 14th St. N., Wisconsin Rapids, and formerly of Neillsville, who died Sunday at Riverview Hospital, Wisconsin Rapids.

The Rev. Gary L. Clark, pastor of the United Church of Christ, will officiate and burial will take place in the Neillsville cemetery.

Mr. Markwardt was born July 11, 1897 in Dodgeveille, to Mr. and John Markwardt, and came to Clark County in 1901 with his parents. He was educated at the Uncle Sam School north of Neillsville.

He married the former Fannie Appleyard on August 20, 1924 in Neillsville, and they farmed in the town of Weston until moving to Neillsville in 1941. He operated a retail milk route for eight years, and was then employed in trucking, excavating, and general contracting work for many years.

His first wife died July 11, 1976 and he was married May 20, 1978, in Neillsville to the former Louise (Imig) Olson and had since made his home in Wisconsin Rapids.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Keith (Evelyn) Lea, Stevens Point; a sister, Mrs. Clara Tobin, Greenwood; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Besides his first wife, he was predeceased by an infant son, and two sisters, Barbara and Mary.
