Weddig, Harvey W. (9 November 1897 – 14 August 1976) With Flag
Harvey W. Weddig, 78, retired Owen pharmacist, died Saturday morning August 14,
at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield where he had been hospitalized since June
27. Memorial services were to be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the United
Church of Christ in Owen with the Rev. Loren Swanson officiating. Cremation was
to follow. The body of Mr. Weddig was in state from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the
Kraut-Maurina Funeral Home in Owen.
Harvey Weddig was born November 9, 1897, in West Bend and moved to Withee in
1907. He graduated from Withee High School and then attended High Park College
in Des Moines, Ia., where he received his pharmacy degree. He worked for a short
time in Marshalltown, Ia.
His association with the Owen Drug Store began in 1918 when he was a partner
with Art and Jim Jensen. Mr. Weddig became sole owner of the store in 1949 and
operated it until July 1 of this year when it was sold to Vern Gullickson.
He was married to the former Minnie Merrill on July 26, 1926, in Eau Claire.
Mr. Weddig was active in community affairs. He was a charter member of the Owen
Kiwanis Club and was a member of the Owen Businessmen’s Club, the Owen Housing
Corporation and of Van Heusen-Fritz American Legion Post No. 123 of Owen. He was
a veteran of WWI. A former member of the board of directors of Victory Memorial
Hospital, Stanley, he was also a member of F&AM Lodge No. 317, Owen, of Zor
Shrine of Madison and the Eau Claire consistory, of the area board for the
University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, of the Wisconsin Pharmaceutical Assn., and
of the National Assn. of Retail Druggists.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one daughter, Mrs. Janice
Crutchfield of Colombia, S.C.; three brothers, Henry Weddig of Park Falls,
Lester Meyer of Phillips and Lawrence Meyer of Hawthorne, Ca.; two sisters, Mrs.
Viola Kenney of Cedarburg and Mrs. Irene Stefen of Plymouth; and four
grandchildren.
