Christie, Carol Jean (11 June 1937 – 13 June 2020)

Carol Jean Vlasak Holmes Christie died June 13, 2020, at the age of 83.

She was born in 1937, in Madison, Wisconsin, the daughter of Lillian and Fred Vlasak. She lost her father when she was only an infant and her mother remarried Burl Marion Holmes, who adopted Carol as his daughter. Carol graduated from Logan High School in La Crosse, where she met her lifelong love, Gerald Eugene Christie. Carol and Jerry married on August 31, 1957, in a civil ceremony while Jerry was on leave from the Air Force. Carol worked at the La Crosse Hospital as a nurse’s aide.

Jerry and Carol moved to Neillsville, in 1959 where they raised their three children. Carol worked at St. John’s Lutheran School as a cook’s assistant. She also cooked on occasion for weddings and fairs for many years. Carol and Jerry renewed their vows in 1991 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Neillsville with their family and friends present. In 2007, Carol moved to Eau Claire to be nearer to her children and grandchildren.

Throughout her life Carol enjoyed crafts and cooking, making many things for her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her children and grandchildren: Kelly and Jim Leino of Eau Claire; Michael and Diane (Sandquist) Christie of Eau Claire, and their children Andrew of Coon Rapids, MN and Pamela of Rochester, MN; June and Tim Drake and their children Haley and Devin all of King George, VA.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, and husband Gerald.

The family is planning a private graveside service.
