Stelson, John C. (5 August 1892 - 31 July 1981)
John C. Stelson, 88, of 804 S. Ash died today at St. Joseph's Hospital. Cause of
death was an apparent heart attack.
Services will be Monday at Faith Lutheran Church. The Rev. Carmen D. Peterson
will officiate. William A. Allen will be soloist and Mrs. Dougles I. Framness
will be organist. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Burial will take place at
Loyal Lutheran Cemetery and American Legion Post 54 will conduct military rites.
Friends may call at the Hansen Funeral Home.
Mr. Stelson was born August 5, 1892 in Loyal, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent
(Martha Teel) Stelson. He married Bernice I Sanders November 12, 1917 at
Immanuel Lutheran Parsonage. The couple celebrated their golden wedding
anniversary in 1967.
He received his education at Loyal schools and lived in Loyal until his
marriage. He then moved to Brokaw, where he was employed at the Brokaw Paper
Mill for six months. He moved back to Loyal and farmed for four years before
moving to Marshfield in 1922. He was employed as a lumber grader for Roddis
Lumber and Veneer Co. now Weyerhaeuser Co. in Marshfield for 47 years until his
retirement in 1967.
He was a member of American Legion Post 54 and Faith Lutheran Church. He was a
veteran of World War I.
Survivors include his wife: one son, Dale of Marshfield; two daughters, Mrs.
Lawrence (Joyce) Pokallus of Spencer and Mrs. Marvel Ness of Marshfield; 13
grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Eva Micklow of
Marquette, Michigan.
He was predeceased by an infant daughter and two sisters.
