Habeck, John F. (31 DEC 1877 – 9 OCT 1965)
John F. Habeck, 87, died Saturday, October 9, 1965 at 10:30 p.m. at the Leahy
Nursing Home, Abbotsford, where he resided the past six weeks. For the past six
years Mr. Habeck lived at the home of Mrs. Helena Woempner, Abbotsford.
The body lay in state at the Maurina Funeral Home, Dorchester, until noon
Tuesday, when it was taken to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Dorchester. Mr.
Habeck was custodian of the church for more than 50 years, and he retained his
membership in that church.
The rev. F.R. Sprengler conducted the funeral services at 3 o’clock Tuesday
afternoon, after which burial was made in Memorial Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Albert Fenske, Melvin Fischer, Herman Fitzlaff, Ted Schmidt
Sr., Ted Schwoch Sr. and Robert Venzke.
Mr. Habeck was born in the town of Mayville, December 31, 1877. He and Frederica
Scheelk were married at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Dorchester, June 7, 1903.
Mrs. Habeck died March 5, 1956.
In the early days, Mr. Habeck operated a sawmill and a farm, and then was a
county patrolman for nine years.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Mollie Dake, Dorchester, and two brothers, Otto
and Louis Habeck, Two Rivers.
A son, two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
